Turtle Sundae Tantalizers

Source: Taste of Home

Known as the "cookie of all cookies" from Taste of Home.

Ingredients

  • ½ c. butter, softened (see note below)
  • ½ c. butter flavored shortening
  • 1-1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 t. vanilla
  • 2-1/4 c. unbleached white all-purpose flour
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • ¼ t. salt
  • 1 c. English toffee bits
  • 1 c. chopped pecans
  • 1-1/2 c. semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips

Instructions

In a mixing bowl, using a hand held mixer, cream butter, shortening and brown sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix in by hand.

Fold in chocolate chips, toffee bits and pecans.

Refrigerate dough for a few hours before baking.

Drop by heaping tablespoons, 2-inches apart onto greased baking sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool for 5 minutes on baking pans before removing to wire racks, lined with paper towel to absorb the grease.

Makes 3-1/2 doz.

NOTE: The original recipe called for 1 cup butter. I like to use half shortening and half butter so the cookies don't bake so flat.
