Ingredients
- 2 Tbls. butter
- ½ c. onion, diced fine
- 1 lb. ground sirloin or lean ground beef
- 1 red pepper, diced fine
- 1-1/2 t. garlic, minced
- 2-1/2 Tbls. brown sugar
- 2 Tbls. Dijon mustard
- 2 Tbls. Worcestershire sauce
- ¾ t. liquid smoke
- 1 Tbls. chili powder
- 1 t. smoked paprika
- 1 c. ketchup
- ¼ t. apple cider vinegar
- salt and pepper to taste
- 6 hamburger buns
Instructions
Heat butter in a large deep frying pan or large saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, add onion. Cook about 5 minutes. Add ground beef and garlic; cook until meat is half way done. Add red pepper and cook until meat is thoroughly cooked, breaking up beef with a wooden spoon.
When meat is browned, tilt frying pan and let grease drain away from meat. Discard grease.
Add brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire, liquid smoke, chili powder and paprika. Stir for 1 minute, then add the ketchup and vinegar. Allow to cook for 5-10 minutes, season to taste and serve. Or cook up to 1 hour on low, then serve.
Scoop onto buns and enjoy.
