Play Dough (cooked)
Recipe came from Neighborhood Nursery School where our sons Ryan and Ben attended.
Ingredients
- (1/2 c.) - 2 c. flour
- (2 Tbls.) - 1/2 c. salt
- (1 t.) - 4 t. cream of tartar
- (1/2 c.) - 2 c. water
- (1-1/2 t.) - 2 Tbls. oil
- Food coloring - a couple of drops
Instructions
Note: You can make a large batch of the same color or smaller batches of different colors.
Small batch of one color: Use the ingredients in parenthesis above. Repeat using different food color(s).
Large batch of the same color: Use the ingredients not in parenthesis above.
Instructions: Add all ingredients to a saucepan or fry pan (size depends on how much you are making), ideally Teflon coated, but doesn't have to be, just easier to clean up.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. It will look like a "gloppy mess", but will eventually get thick and start to dry out into a firm "dough". Transfer to a flat surface (I use a prep mat) and knead forming a ball. Wrap tight in saran wrap while it cools.
Store in an air-tight container or zip lock bag(s).
Color Options:
Make black and orange for Halloween
Make red and green for Christmas
Make red, white and blue for 4th of July
Make pink and red for Valentine
NOTE: The cream of tarter is a preservative so this will keeps for months, even a year and still be good. Also non-toxic.
