Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (Traditional)

Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. butter, softened
  • 1/2 c. shortening (Crisco butter flavored baking sticks)
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 1-1/2 c. unbleached all-purpose white flour
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 2-3/4 c. dry oatmeal
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • 1/4 t. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts, optional
  • 1 c. Dole raisins
  • cinnamon baking chips, see Note

Instructions

In a large bowl, cream together butter, shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla.

By hand, stir in oatmeal and dry ingredients. Fold in raisins and nuts.

Refrigerate dough a couple of hours before baking.

Drop by level teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets and bake at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.

Cool on wire racks lined with paper towel to absorb the grease.

NOTE: You can also substitute cinnamon baking chips in place of the raisins and nuts.
