Grilled Sandwich: Monte Cristo

My new favorite sandwich!
You can use leftover ham or ham from a deli
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- ½ c. milk
- pinch of salt and pepper
- 8 slices sturdy white bread (French Pheasant, Sour Dough, Brioche)
- 2-3 Tbs. yellow mustard
- 3-4 Tbls. Hellman’s mayonnaise with olive oil
- 12 slices of thick sliced baked ham (or combo of ham and turkey)
- 2 c. gruyere cheese or Swiss cheese, coarsely shredded
- 4 Tbls. butter or butter flavored olive oil
For Serving
- raspberry jam
Instructions
Beat eggs and milk in a shallow dish (large enough to fit a sandwich) along with a few pinches of salt and pepper. Set aside.
Assemble sandwiches, with mustard, mayonnaise, 3 slices of ham (turkey or combo) and cheese. Slightly compress sandwich.
Heat skillet over medium heat. Add butter (allow to melt) or use butter flavored olive oil..
Dip and coat each sandwich in beaten egg mixture and place in skillet. Cook sandwiches on low-medium heat 3-4 minutes on each side, until browned to liking and cheese has melted.
Slice sandwich in half and serve with raspberry jam for dipping.
