Margaritas: Wine Margaritas
Source: Local Wine Bar
Oh so good! So much better than made from a mix!
Ingredients
- 1-1/2 oz. gold tequila
- 1/2 oz. Cointreau (or triple sec)
- 1-1/2 oz. red wine (blend or any red wine will work)
- juice from half of a lime
- kosher salt (we prefer it to Margarita salt)
Sweet Sour Mix
- 1 c. white sugar
- 1 c. water
- juice from 2 oranges
- juice from 2 limes
- juice from 2 lemons
Instructions
Sweet Sour Mix: Boil water and sugar until dissolved. Set aside to cool to room temperature. Add juice from 2 oranges, 2 limes and 2 lemons to water/sugar mixture. Refrigerate and use as needed for each drink.
For Each Drink: Rub lime wedge around rim of a tall or highball-size glass and dip rim in kosher salt.
Fill glass with ice and add the tequila, Cointreau, red wine and juice from half of a lime (use wedge for garnish). Top off with sweet sour mix (2-3 oz. for a short glass, 3-4 oz. for a tall glass).
Stir with stick to mix up. Add squeezed lime wedge in to drink and enjoy.
NOTE: You could substitute Grand Marnier for the Cointreau if you'd like. Grand Marnier is more expensive. Triple sec is sweeter, and more economical, but you will lose the ultimate flavor.
The little bottles of wine in 4-packs work great to make these if you aren't a wine drinker.
