Ham Steak: Maple-Glazed

Ingredients

  • 1 center-cut ham steak, about 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick or 4 individual smaller ham steaks (1/4-inch)
  • 1 Tbls. butter
  • 2 Tbls. real maple syrup (no substitutes)
  • 2 t. good balsamic vinegar (18 yr or older)

Instructions

Melt butter in a nonstick skillet; add ham and cook over med-high heat. Cook on the first side until lightly browned, about 4-5 minutes. Turn and brown on the second side, about 4-5 minutes more. Reduce the heat to medium, if necessary.

While ham cooks, stir the maple syrup and vinegar together in a small measuring cup or dish. Set aside.

When ham has browned on both sides, pour the syrup mixture over the ham in the skillet. Turn the ham slice over several times to coat it with the syrup. Cook turning often until the syrup thickens just slightly, about 30-45 seconds.

Remove ham from skillet to a serving plate and spoon any remaining glaze on top.
