Dutch Baby: Basic Recipe

This is a basic Dutch Baby recipe and you can add various toppings of your choice

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbls. unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 c. milk, room temperature
  • 1 Tbls. white sugar
  • ½ c. unbleached all-purpose white flour
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Topping Choices

  • syrup
  • preserves or jam
  • powdered sugar
  • cinnamon sugar
  • fresh fruit (with a little whipped topping)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Combine eggs, milk, sugar, flour and nutmeg in a blender and blend until batter is smooth. Batter may also be mixed by hand using a whisk. Set aside.

Place butter in a 10-inch oven safe skillet. Place in a preheated oven until butter melts.

As soon as the butter or margarine has melted (watch so it doesn’t burn), add the batter into skillet. Bake for 20 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Lower the oven temperature to 300 degrees and bake 5 minutes longer.

Remove skillet from oven, cut into wedges and serve at once with serve with the topping of your choice.
