Dutch Apple Pie

Source: Appleton Post Crescent

I use Pillsbury ready made crust - red box

Ingredients

  • 1 prepared 9-inch pie crust (unbaked)
  • 8-10 apples, room temp. (mackintosh or golden delicious)
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 2 t. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbls. unbleached all-purpose white flour
  • 2 Tbls. butter

Topping

  • 1 c. unbleached all-purpose white flour or whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/3 c. oatmeal
  • 1/2 c. butter

Instructions

If using a ready-made crust, unroll pie crust and roll out a bit to fit your pie plate. Place in pie plate.

Toss apples with sugar, flour and cinnamon. Put into a prepared pie crust and dot with butter.

Combine topping ingredients except butter. Using a pastry blender or fork, cut in margarine until crumbly.

Sprinkle topping mixture over apples and bake at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes minutes.

Let sit at least 30 minutes before cutting.

NOTE: Always store whole wheat pastry flour in the refrigerator; it can become rancid over time if not refrigerated.
