Caramels

These are really good in S'mores
Ingredients
- 1 c. real butter
- 2 c. light brown sugar
- dash of salt
- 1 c. light corn syrup
- 1 c. sweetened condensed milk
- 1 t. vanilla
Instructions
Melt butter. Remove from heat; add sugar and salt. Blend in syrup. Put back on heat (med.-low) and add milk stirring constantly (with plastic spatula) until a full boil is reached -- a long time! Continue stirring for 13 additional minutes.
If not cooked long enough, caramels will be soft and stick to wrapper.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
Pour into a buttered 9 x 9" pan. Cool at room temp for a while, then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to set.
Cut by rows, refrigerating in between rows to keep them cold and easier to cut. Wrap in square sheets of wax paper.
Store in refrigerator. Makes approximately 65 caramels.
