Apple Bread (Dutch)
You can make 1 large loaf or 3 mini loaves.
Fun to make in Fall with fresh apples.


Ingredients
- 1/2 c. butter, softened
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 t. vanilla
- 2 c. all-purpose unbleached white flour
- 1 t. baking soda
- 1/2 t. salt
- 1/3 c. low-fat buttermilk (see Note)
- 1 c. macintosh or granny smith apple peeled & chopped
- 1/3 c. chopped walnuts
Streusel Topping
- 1/3 c. all-purpose unbleached white flour
- 2 Tbls. white sugar
- 1/2 t. ground cinnamon
- 2 Tbls. brown sugar
- 3 Tbls. butter, softened
Instructions
Cream butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
Stir in dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk.
Fold in apples and nuts.
Pour into a greased and floured loaf pan or use 3 mini loaf pans.
Streusel Topping: Add white flour, white sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon to a mini food processor. Add 3 tablespoons of butter (in small chunks). Pulse until crumbly. Sprinkle topping mixture over batter.
Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 minutes for a single loaf pan or 35-40 minutes for 3 mini loaf pans..
When done, loosen edges with a knife and let stand in pan for 5 minutes before removing to wire rack to cool.
NOTE: If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can make your own. Add 1 teaspoon white vinegar to 1/3 cup of milk. Let stand for 10 minutes before using.
