Overnight Oats: Applesauce

Enjoy this cold or warmed in microwave
Use store bought, no sugar added or make my homemade Applesauce ahead of time.

Overnight oats are a popular breakfast in Switzerland.
They were created by Dr. Maximillian Bircher for his patients in Zurich because it helps to slow digestion and feel fuller, longer.

Ingredients

  • 1 c. rolled oats
  • 1 c. unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 c. unsweetened almond milk (or regular milk)
  • 2 Tbls. chia seeds
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • 2 t. honey
  • 1/2 t. vanilla extract

Toppings

  • dollop of vanilla Greek yogurt with cinnamon (Chobani)
  • chopped walnuts
  • raisins
  • granola

Instructions

In a jar or airtight container, combine rolled oats, applesauce, milk, chia seeds, cinnamon, honey, and vanilla extract. Stir well.

Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours.

In the morning, give the oats a good stir. Add a splash of milk if you prefer a thinner consistency (if using yogurt for topping, don't add extra milk).

Garnish with choice of your toppings.
