Healthy Eating Tips

  • Once you get your fresh veggies and fruit home, be sure to wash them first before putting them in your refrigerator. They could harbor bacteria which you could transfer to other food in your refrigerator. Rinse bananas as well.
  • Wash fruits and veggies in cold water, not hot. Hot water can actually make existing bacteria multiply. Use a veggie brush with water mixed with a little white vinegar, then add a little baking soda. Rinse really well with cold water. Dry and store appropriately in refrigerator.
  • Store celery, after it is washed and ends discarded, in tinfoil lined with a piece of paper towel (change periodically). It will keep for weeks.
  • Store pepper strips (dried well with paper towel) in a paper towel lined air-tight container. Change paper towel periodically to keep moisture out. Peppers will keep for a long time if kept dry.
  • Store lettuce, after it is cleaned, in an air tight container with a sheet of paper towel on top and bottom. Change paper towel periodically to keep moisture out. Your lettuce will keep for a long time. Never use lettuce without cleaning it first!
